“For degreed, working professionals like me who decide to teach as a second career, Marian University’s program emphasizes not only classroom management and the art of teaching, but also important concepts like being a child activist, creating an equitable classroom that promotes cultural diversity, and encouraging students to take educational risks. These are “essential nuggets” of wisdom that make the difference between being a successful teacher and a great one.”

Greg Bardonner received his undergraduate degree at Indiana University and enjoyed attending school there, but when he decided to pursue his master’s degree, he chose to attend Marian University because of the smaller class sizes. Bardonner believes the personalized attention he received from Marian University created a strong connection, something larger universities sometimes struggle to accomplish.

It is also important to Bardonner to give back and in turn, he receives as much as he gives. He currently mentors student teachers and undergraduate students in a mathematics class taught by Susie Beesley, Ph.D., one of Bardonner’s former professors. “I learn from their enthusiasm and the excitement they bring to the classroom and it carries into my classroom.” Another passion of Bardonner’s is an All Pro Dad chapter that he and another teacher started that emphasizes just how important dads are in the development of children.

Bardonner previously taught third and fourth grade at J.B. Stephens Elementary in Greenfield, Indiana and second grade at Fisher Elementary in Speedway, Indiana. He currently teaches fifth grade at Frank H. Wheeler Elementary School in Speedway, Indiana.
