Indianapolis Public Schools and Marion County charter schools.

James graduated from Morristown High School, which had about 200 enrolled when he attended.  He graduated from Marian University when it was known as Marian College and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology degree with minors in honors and peace and justice. While at Marian, James was a resident assistant, a peer tutor, and a student ambassador. He also holds a master's degree in health administration from Indiana University.

“I advise high school students to be proactive in their college search. Students need to put work into understanding their own strengths and weaknesses and how that might fit into a career after college.  Students should also schedule their SAT or ACT tests early so they’re eligible for scholarships with early deadlines.”

His personal interests run the gamut. James is an avid reader and has an insatiable appetite for knowledge. He enjoys cooking, long-distance running, yoga and meditation, playing guitar, listening to vinyl records, and socializing with friends.

I think my background sets me apart from other staff members. I was a country boy and my entertainment as a high-school student involved bonfires, four-wheelers, camping, fishing, and playing with my siblings either in a cornfield or on top of large round bales of hay. I attended Marian because it had a 'small town' feel even though it is near downtown Indianapolis. People say 'hello' when passing and open doors for each other as they enter buildings. My education at Marian University, combined with my transplant to Indianapolis from 'the sticks,' provided for nothing less than a transformational experience. I was humbled by the liberal arts education here at Marian; it is a part of my worldview now and something I draw on daily.”
