Sherman Gorbis, DO


Dr. Gorbis joined the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-COM) in July 2019. Prior to joining MU-COM, Dr. Gorbis was an associate professor (with tenure) at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine from 1991 to 2019. He has also served as faculty at the University of Medicine and Dentistry (now Rowan U) School of Osteopathic Medicine (1983-1991) and the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (now Western U, 1982-1983).

He became certified in osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) in 1991 and earned his degree as a Fellow of the American Academy of Osteopathy (FAAO) in 1995. At MSUCOM he and colleagues developed five osteopathic principles and practice/manipulative treatment (OPP/OMT) integrated teaching workshops (DVD format), presently being used in MSUCOM’s third year OMM curriculum, as well as several residency programs.

He enjoys spending time with his family; wife Lori, three grown children and four grandchildren; reading David Baldacci books, and rooting for the New York Jets.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Gorbis maintains an in-hospital OMT consultation, treatment, and teaching service with colleagues at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. Osteopathic medical students and residents are welcome to rotate.
